About the Site (and me!)

Rumorology is not a popular word.

It can mean either the spread or the study of rumors. This blog's more about the latter.

This website is dedicated to the observation and study of urban legends and rumors as a form of communication, especially in virtual settings.

I may explore individual instances of rumors, larger rumor complexes, or broader motifs and trends. I also plan to promote the scholarship of those who have dedicated much of their own work to the study of urban legends, such as Bill Ellis, Andrea Kitta, and Gary Alan Fine.

So then, who is this Lord Mondegreen fellow?

An armchair folklorist whose fascination with communication vastly outranks his actual communication skills.
